Choosing a truck bed bike rack

A truck bed bike rack holds your bikes upright inside the bed, so the tailgate stays closed and the hitch stays free. The Big Days Chase Rack is built to order in Utah and carries mountain bikes, e-bikes and dirt bikes on one T-track base. Pick a build by what you ride, then add mounts later.

Bed rack or tailgate pad?

• Tailgate stays closed and usable. Bikes ride inside the bed, not draped over the tailgate, so nothing rests on the tailgate or its paint and you can still open it.
• Each bike is held on its own. The front wheel sits in a Big Days tray with a strap, and a pedal strap ties the bike to the in-bed lower bar. Rear wheels are not locked to one spot, so each bike finds its own position.
• Hitch and bed stay open. The hitch is free for a trailer, the backup camera stays clear, and Big Days says about 40 cubic feet of bed space stays open under the bikes.
• Short beds work. The Chase Rack fits beds from 4 ft 10 in. The largest bike builds carry 5 bikes on mid-size and full-size trucks.

Capacity

Big Days rates the Chase Rack for up to 900 lb static. The rack weighs about 70 lb before mounts. Builds carry 1 to 5 bikes (Chase Rack bike builds, Pro 5 Bike for mid-size trucks), mixed loads (3 bikes plus 1 dirt bike, 2 bikes plus 2 dirt bikes), or 2 to 3 dirt bikes (2 moto with ramp, Baja 1000 Pro 3 moto).

The two 5-bike choices: the 5-bike option on the Chase Rack bike builds page is the base rack with the lower bar, drop brackets and 5 Bike/eBike mounts. The Pro 5 Bike build adds a Headache Rack and a Code4LED light bar with light bar mounts.

Will it fit my truck?

Big Days lists fit for most mid-size and full-size pickups with 40 to 64 in of inside bed width and a bed length of 4 ft 10 in to 8 ft. It does not fit Rams with the RamBox, the 2006 to 2014 Ridgeline, the Hyundai Santa Cruz, the Cybertruck or the GMC Sierra CarbonPro bed.

• Bed clamp: the standard clamp attaches to the bed rails with no drilling.
• Deck Rail clamp: for trucks with a factory deck rail, like the Tacoma and Tundra, also no drilling.
• Tonneau cover: depends on the cover. Covers with a built-in T-track can mount with a T-track kit. Bikes need the in-bed lower bar, which conflicts with a tonneau cover, so ask us first.
• Bolt-on: the permanent option, drilling four 3/8 in holes in the top of the bed rails.

Mountain bikes and e-bikes

The Big Days bike and e-bike tray takes 20 to 29 in wheels with tires up to 4 in wide, for mountain bikes, e-bikes and Surrons (Big Days does not recommend off-road use with a Surron loaded). Big Days requires the lower bar for every mountain bike setup. Big Days publishes the 900 lb static rack rating, not a per-bike weight limit, so ask us about heavy e-bikes. For road or triathlon tires, Big Days suggests padding around the rim and tire in the tray.

Dirt bikes

Chase Rack moto builds carry dirt bikes from 125 to 850cc, per Big Days. For 2 or 3 dirt bikes in a bed under about 5 ft 5 in, add the Moto Offset Kit. Compare moto systems in our truck bed dirt bike rack guide.

Shipping

Every Chase Rack is built to order in Utah. Plan on about 5 to 10 business days to build, then 3 to 5 days in transit. Racks ship by ground to the Lower 48 at the flat rate shown on each product page.
