Canyon Coolers: hard and soft coolers from Flagstaff

Canyon Coolers has made coolers since 2011 and is based in Flagstaff, Arizona, the starting point for many Grand Canyon river trips. Founder Jason Costello has run rivers for decades, and the company backs its Pro hard coolers with a lifetime warranty and the Nomad soft cooler with a 66-week warranty.

  • Pro45: a 45 quart rotomolded cooler with straight inside walls, cam latches, leak-proof drain plugs and lid slots for tie-downs. At 26 x 17.25 x 16.25 in outside it suits smaller cargo areas and mid-size truck beds, and it holds 29 cans at max ice retention.
  • Pro65: the same build in 65 quarts, about enough food and drinks for 4 adults for a weekend, per Canyon. It is longer and taller than the Pro45, at 31.25 x 17.25 x 18 in.
  • Nomad 20: a 20 liter soft cooler with a trap mouth that springs shut, a welded TPU liner, up to 3.5 days of ice at 90F per Canyon, and a shell that floats if the boat tips. It squeezes into footwells and boat hatches.

Many groups run two coolers: a hard cooler for food that stays shut, and a soft cooler for drinks and lunch that gets opened all day. Pre-chill the cooler, use block ice, and keep it out of the sun to make ice last. Strap it down with the lid slots or tie-down points. Check the outside size against your cargo area or truck bed and tonneau height on each product page.
