The Dometic CFX5 35 is a 36L portable fridge freezer and electric cooler for camping, road trips and overland travel. Dometic calls the 35 a versatile size for up to four people on weekend trips and long solo travel.

It holds up to 50 12 oz cans, cools from -22C to 20C (68F) and runs on 12/24V DC or 100 to 240V AC, so it works in the vehicle, at camp or at home.

Fit

How many people is the CFX5 35 sized for?
Dometic sizes the CFX5 35 for up to four people on weekend trips and for long solo travel. Its 36 liter single zone holds up to 50 cans of 12 ounces, with a removable wire divider and an LED interior light. You can set it anywhere from -7F to 68F in 1 degree steps, so it runs as a fridge or a freezer.
How much power does the CFX5 35 draw on 12V?
Dometic lists 7.6A at 12V and 3.4A at 24V while the compressor runs. In Dometic's test at 90F outside and 39F inside, it averaged 1.11 Ah per hour on 12V DC. On AC it is rated at 47W, which Dometic says is less than a 60W light bulb. Dometic's VMSO 3.5 compressor adjusts its speed automatically.
Will the CFX5 35 hold up on washboard roads?
Dometic mounts the components inside on dampers to isolate noise and handle sustained vibration off road. Its manual says the cooler can take a short tilt of up to 30 degrees, such as on a boat. The display is a weatherproof color TFT screen with soft touch buttons, and the aluminum alloy carry handles fold themselves down when you let go.
How do I secure the CFX5 35 in a truck bed or cargo area?
It measures 27.32 inches deep, 15.67 wide and 16.02 high, per Dometic, with M6 threaded inserts in the base for bolting down. Dometic sells the CFX5 SLD3545 fridge slide (9610000651) for the 35 and 45, plus a US tie down kit (9600017007) and strap kit (9600017296). We offer the PC35 protective cover (9620012806) as an option on this page.
How much space does the CFX5 35 need around it?
Dometic's manual calls for at least 50 mm, about 2 inches, of open space on every side so heat from the compressor can escape. Do not run or store it in a closed compartment with little air flow, and keep it out of direct sun and rain. It is rated to operate in surrounding temperatures from 61F to 109F.
Will the CFX5 35 tell me if the lid did not latch?
Yes. If the lid stays open for more than 3 minutes, the display shows a lid open alert, per Dometic's manual. The Mobile Cooling app connects over Bluetooth with no password, and pairing is done inside the app rather than in phone settings. The app tracks temperature and energy use, keeps a history, and lets several phones connect at once.
