Jeep Grand Cherokee Car Camping Setup: Use the Full Cargo Floor the Right Way
The Jeep Grand Cherokee gives you a longer, wider cargo platform than a compact SUV once the rear seats are folded. That space is only useful if the mattress fills it. A generic inflatable wastes the floor, sits uneven, and leaves gaps that turn into pressure points overnight. This guide is the sleep setup we carry for the Grand Cherokee, plus airflow and storage that actually fit a midsize SUV cargo well.
Sleep: use the Grand Cherokee mattress, not a compact one
The Jeep Grand Cherokee air mattress is cut for this cargo floor. It inflates in under three minutes with the included pump and packs to a carry bag. Three tiers, same fit:
- AIR Base ($199.99) . single-layer air, adjustable firmness. Fine for a few weekends a year.
- AIR Pro ($349.99) . 300D Oxford laminated fabric. The version most Grand Cherokee owners should start with if they camp regularly.
- AIR+FOAM Pro ($499.99) . foam over air for pressure relief and cold-floor insulation. Better for shoulder season and longer trips.
This vehicle is a full-size SUV sleep platform in our catalog, not compact/mid. Pair it with the full-size SUV fitted sheet ($89.99). Do not buy the compact/mid sheet for a Grand Cherokee.
Airflow
Crack the rear windows. Luno vehicle window screens ($69.99, two-pack) cover the openings so you get air without insects. The Luno car camping fan ($49.99) clips to a window frame or headrest if you want extra circulation. The Grand Cherokee has more interior volume than a Crosstrek, so the fan is optional rather than required for a short night, but it still helps in summer.
Storage
You have more floor than a compact SUV, but the mattress still takes the cargo well. Keep bags off the sleep surface. The Luno cargo hammock ($99.99) holds overnight items overhead. A soft cooler can live in a footwell or the front passenger seat. Do not block the hatch with a hard cooler if you need a night exit.
The 5-minute setup
- Fold the rear seats flat and clear the cargo floor.
- Lay the Grand Cherokee mattress and inflate (about three minutes).
- Fit window screens on the windows you will leave cracked.
- Hang the cargo hammock if you want the sleep surface clear.
Deflate, roll, and stow in the carry bag in the morning. It stays in the cargo area with the rest of the kit.
What to skip
- A compact/mid mattress. That cut is for Crosstrek, Forester, Impreza, and Bronco Sport class floors, not the Grand Cherokee.
- A generic inflatable. The cargo floor shape is the whole point of a vehicle mattress. Close enough is not a fit.
- Dirt-bike or chase-rack content. This is a sleep-in-the-SUV setup. Moto haul is a different page.
