5th Gen 4Runner Build Guide: Bumpers, Sliders, Recovery and Camp Gear (2010-2024)

The 5th Gen 4Runner ran from 2010 to 2024, so there is a deep bench of armor and camp gear made for it. The catch: a few parts change in 2014, and some trims need their own notes. We give you both.
The short answer: put rock sliders on first, add recovery gear and a roof rack, then choose one front bumper and keep it. Below is the gear we carry for this truck, with fit taken from each maker's own page. Where a maker does not publish something, we say "not published" instead of guessing. Everything lives in our 5th Gen 4Runner (2010-2024) collection.

Roof racks and ladders for the 5th Gen 4Runner

We keep the rack talk short. Prinsu says the Prinsu Pro Toyota 4Runner Full Roof Rack 2010-2024 ($1,380) fits every 2010 to 2024 trim, SR5 through TRD Pro and Limited. It bolts to the factory mounting points with no drilling and adds about 3.5 inches of height. Prinsu rates it at 700 lb dynamic and 1,200 lb static, and your 4Runner's own roof capacity still applies.
Other racks for this truck are in our 5th Gen 4Runner collection.
Looking for a ladder?
We do not carry a 5th Gen roof ladder right now. BodyArmor4x4 says the Pro Series II rear bumper step and the Revo Step Sliders both help you reach the top of the SUV. Want a true ladder? Ask us before you order a rack and we will tell you what pairs with it.
5th Gen 4Runner front bumpers: BodyArmor4x4 Hiline vs CBI Covert

Both bumpers take a winch, both need the factory bumper cover trimmed, and both list 2014 to 2024 only. On a 2010 to 2013 4Runner, neither one fits, so confirm with us before ordering.
The Hiline is the one for TRD trims: BodyArmor4x4 says it clears the factory TRD skid plate. Read the exclusion twice: it does not fit Nightshade or Limited models.
The CBI Covert sits lower and takes a wider range of winches. CBI does not publish trim exclusions, so on a Limited or Nightshade, confirm with us before ordering.
-
BodyArmor4x4 Hiline Front Winch Bumper
For TRD trims with the factory skid. Not Nightshade or Limited.
- 3/16 inch plate, 1/4 inch winch plate
- Trimming, about 2 hours
-
For a low profile and a bigger winch.
- Mounts directly to the frame
- Trimming required
| Spec | BodyArmor4x4 Hiline | CBI Covert |
|---|---|---|
| Price today | $825 | $850 |
| Trim notes | Not for Nightshade or Limited; clears the factory TRD skid plate | not published |
| Winch | Up to 10,000 lb | 8,000 to 12,000 lb; non-integrated solenoid recommended |
| Sensors | Bull bar removable for TSS; may need to come off, truck by truck | Retains factory sensors |
| Light mount | One 20 inch dual row bar | One 30 inch single-row bar |
| Material and finish | Steel plate, light texture black | Steel, black texture powder coat |
| Weight | not published | 55 to 65 lb |
| Freight | Truck freight, flat charge shown at checkout | Truck freight, flat charge shown at checkout |
Pick on trim first, then winch size. Trimmed plastic does not grow back.
5th Gen 4Runner rock sliders: CBI Overland vs BodyArmor4x4 Revo

If you leave pavement at all, start with sliders. Rocker panels are costly to fix and easy to fold.
The CBI Overland sliders cover 2010 to 2024 and bolt on in about an hour, and CBI says they are strong enough to lift the truck with a jack. One flag: CBI says they may not be compatible with 2WD models, so 2WD owners should confirm with us before ordering.
BodyArmor4x4 makes two versions on the same frame mounts. The Revo Rock Sliders angle up at 25 degrees with a slight kickout. The Revo Step Sliders run flat with a solid step along the cab. Both bolt to factory holes with no drilling and work with KDSS. Two notes: they do not work with X-REAS suspension, and SR5 and Limited models need the rocker trim removed or modified.
-
CBI Overland Bolt-On Rock Sliders
For a fast bolt-on install. May not fit 2WD.
- Bare metal $1,100 or powder coat black $1,180
- Kick outs optional
-
BodyArmor4x4 Revo Rock Sliders
For KDSS trucks. Not X-REAS.
- 1.75 inch tube, .120 inch wall
- Rock or Step version, $800 either way
Kickout or step comes down to who rides with you. A flat step is easier for kids and dogs.
5th Gen 4Runner rear bumper and swingout
The BodyArmor4x4 Pro Series II Rear Bumper ($1,100) is the last big steel piece. It fits 2010 to 2024, keeps the factory receiver, and adds a step plus quarter panel hoops that BodyArmor4x4 rates as steps up to 200 lb. Two trade-offs: it does not retain proximity sensors, and trucks with Blind Spot Monitoring need BSM deactivated.
Add the Pro Series II Driver Swingout ($700) when you want a home for a spare, fuel or a Hi-Lift. It bolts to that bumper only, and the tire or accessory mount is sold separately.
-
BodyArmor4x4 Pro Series II Rear Bumper
For a step, recovery points and swingout mounts.
- Factory bumper trimming, no drilling
- Light fitment for 2 LED pods
-
For a spare, fuel or a Hi-Lift. Needs the rear bumper.
- Rated up to 130 lb
- Built-in folding table
Recovery gear for the 5th Gen 4Runner

Armor keeps damage off the truck. Recovery gear gets you home. We would buy this kit before a winch.
Start with traction boards. The ActionTrax Recovery Boards ($299) suit most weekend builds. The Metal Tooth ActionTrax ($399) grip harder but are made for heavy use, and they can damage tires if you spin on them.
Then air. The ARB Onboard Air Compressor ($359.99) lets you air down for the trail and back up before the highway. ARB does not publish a 5th Gen mounting spot, so confirm with us before ordering. Pack a real first aid kit too: the MyFAK First Aid Kit is $169.95 Standard or $324.95 Pro. Our off-road recovery kit guide goes deeper on what to carry.
-
-
For airing back up at the trailhead.
- 3.08 CFM at 0 PSI, 100 PSI max
- 50 percent duty cycle (30 on, 30 off)
-
Adding a winch?
Match it to the bumper. The Hiline is built for up to a 10,000 lb winch, so our DV8 12,000 lb Recovery Winch ($729.99) is over its rating. The Covert takes 8,000 to 12,000 lb, and CBI recommends winches with a non-integrated solenoid. DV8 does not say whether its metal control box separates, so confirm with us before ordering that pairing.
Lighting for the 5th Gen 4Runner

Match the light to the mount first. The Hiline takes one 20 inch dual row bar, and BodyArmor4x4's own 20 inch Blackout LED Light Bar ($190) is that size: a double row combo beam rated at 120 watts and 8,400 raw lumens, with brackets and a switched harness.
At the back, the Pro Series II rear bumper has light fitment for two LED pods. BodyArmor4x4's Blackout LED Cube Spot Lights ($121) come as a pair, but the pod mount size is not published, so confirm with us before ordering.
The CBI Covert mount is for a 30 inch single-row bar, and we do not have one we can confirm for it yet. Ask us and we will look.
Sleep and camp in a 5th Gen 4Runner

Fold the rear seats and the 5th Gen cargo area makes a good bed. Luno sizes its 4Runner mattress by one question: do you have a third row?
On the Luno AIR Pro 4Runner Mattress ($349.99), choose 5G 4Runners for a two-row truck, or the 5G with 3rd Row Seats size. Luno says trucks without the sliding cargo tray can be left with a slope when the seats fold, so level it with a pad or a simple platform. For cold nights, the Luno AIR+FOAM Pro 4Runner/Defender Mattress ($499.99) adds foam and is rated R-value 11. We carry it in the two-row size only; with a third row, confirm with us before ordering.
The Luno 4Runner Trunk Window Screen ($84.99), cut for 2010 and newer hatch glass, lets you sleep with the back window open. More is in our Toyota 4Runner car camping setup guide.
Set the bed up once in the driveway before the first trip.

For the kitchen, the Chuck Box Camp Kitchen ($389) keeps the stove, dishes and dry goods in one box, and its top lifts off as a wash bin. For cold food, the Canyon Coolers PRO 45 ($329.99) needs only ice. The Dometic CFX2 45 Powered Cooler ($879.99) runs on 12/24 volt DC or household AC but has no internal battery.

5th Gen 4Runner build order by budget

Totals are today's prices on our site, before tax and freight (a flat charge shown at checkout on freight items). Every tier mixes brands on purpose. Shop it all in the 5th Gen 4Runner collection.
| Budget | What to buy | Total at today's prices |
|---|---|---|
| $1,500 | Revo Rock Sliders ($800), ActionTrax ($299) and the ARB compressor ($359.99) | $1,458.99 |
| $4,000 | Prinsu Pro rack ($1,380), Hiline bumper ($825), CBI Overland sliders in bare metal ($1,100), ActionTrax ($299) and the Luno AIR Pro ($349.99) | $3,953.99 |
| $8,000+ | Prinsu Pro rack ($1,380), CBI Covert ($850), CBI Overland sliders in black ($1,180), Pro Series II rear bumper ($1,100) and driver swingout ($700), ARB compressor ($359.99), ActionTrax ($299), MyFAK Pro ($324.95), Luno AIR+FOAM Pro ($499.99), Chuck Box ($389) and Dometic CFX2 45 ($879.99) | $7,962.92 in parts, past $8,000 with freight |
On a Limited, Nightshade or 2010 to 2013 truck, the Hiline in the $4,000 tier does not fit. Put that money toward the rear bumper, or confirm with us before ordering a front bumper. And choose your front bumper once: buying one now and another later is the most expensive way to get there.
What to skip on a 5th Gen 4Runner

- 6th Gen parts, even from the same brand. The 2025 and newer 4Runner is a different truck. On a 6th Gen? See our 6th Gen 4Runner build guide.
- A winch bumper with no winch plan. Sliders and traction boards do more on most trails.
- A light bar cutout with no light bar. On the Prinsu Pro, take the Standard deflector unless a 40 inch bar is coming.
- A powered fridge with no power plan. If the truck cannot power the CFX2 45, the Canyon PRO 45 and a bag of ice will do.
5th Gen 4Runner FAQ
Do 6th Gen 4Runner parts fit my 5th Gen?
No. The 2025 and newer 4Runner is a different truck, and parts do not carry over. Every part in this guide lists 2010 to 2024 or 2014 to 2024 fit. Our 6th Gen 4Runner build guide covers that one.
Which parts fit a 2010 to 2013 4Runner?
The Prinsu Pro rack, both sliders, the Pro Series II rear bumper and swingout, and the Luno trunk window screen list 2010 and newer fit. Both front bumpers start at 2014. For a 2010 to 2013 front bumper, confirm with us before ordering.
Does my 4Runner trim matter?
For some parts, yes. The Hiline does not fit Nightshade or Limited models. The Revo sliders work with KDSS but not X-REAS suspension, and SR5 and Limited need the rocker trim removed or modified. CBI sliders may not fit 2WD models. Prinsu says its rack fits every trim. If a maker does not publish a note for your trim, confirm with us before ordering.
Can I keep using my sunroof with the Prinsu Pro rack?
Yes. Prinsu says the rack design allows full use of your sunroof without interference, depending on your accessory setup.
Will a new bumper affect my sensors?
CBI says the Covert retains factory sensors. BodyArmor4x4 says the Hiline bull bar may need to come off for Toyota Safety Sense, truck by truck. At the back, the Pro Series II does not retain proximity sensors, and trucks with Blind Spot Monitoring need BSM deactivated.
How does freight shipping work for racks and bumpers?
Large, heavy items like rooftop tents, bumpers and bed racks have to ship by truck freight, which costs a lot more than a regular parcel. These items carry a flat freight charge to cover part of that cost. You will see it at checkout before you pay, and it includes liftgate service and delivery to a home address (curbside). Items that ship by truck freight are not part of our free shipping offer. If our product page lists your vehicle and the part does not fit, we cover the return, freight included, even after you sign the delivery receipt (bill of lading). Signing for freight only rules out returns for a change of mind or for damage not noted at delivery, and returns start with an email to hello@gearlanders.com. Full details are on our FAQ page.
