Description

The LifeSaver Jerrycan replacement cartridge, foil sealed, is the standard Jerrycan ultrafiltration cartridge heat sealed in aluminium foil for long storage. Keep it in an emergency kit, go-bag or vehicle so a fresh cartridge is ready when the one in your Jerrycan is spent.

It fits all LifeSaver Jerrycans and purifies up to 20,000 litres (5,300 US gallons). LifeSaver says the foil pack lets it be stored for 10+ years, and FailSafe stops the flow once the cartridge needs replacing.

Why it works

  • Removes 99.99% of viruses, 99.9999% of bacteria, 99.9% of cysts and 99.99% of microplastics, per LifeSaver
  • Up to 20,000 litres (5,300 US gallons) per cartridge
  • Aluminium barrier foil slows water vapour 80 times compared with standard polyethylene packaging, per LifeSaver
  • FailSafe: an automatic indicator when the cartridge needs replacing
  • No measuring, wait times or chlorine taste
  • Improves clarity of glacial, cloudy or muddy water
  • Product materials and filtered water are BPA and BPS free

Questions

How is this different from the standard Jerrycan replacement cartridge?
It is the same Jerrycan ultrafiltration cartridge, sealed in aluminium foil. LifeSaver says the foil pack lets it be stored for 10+ years, while the standard cartridge carries a shelf life of 3 to 5 years from purchase. Choose the foil sealed one if the cartridge will sit in a kit or vehicle before you use it.
Why does the foil packaging extend shelf life?
Per LifeSaver, the aluminium barrier foil lets water vapour through 80 times slower than standard polyethylene packaging, with a transmission rate under 0.01 g/m² per 24 hours. It keeps moisture out and holds the glycerine inside the hollow fibre membranes, which keeps the cartridge ready to use. Leave the pack sealed until you install it.
Which Jerrycans does it fit?
LifeSaver says the cartridge is compatible with all LifeSaver Jerrycans. That covers the original LifeSaver Jerrycan and the Jerrycan Graphene:Ultra. LifeSaver also makes a separate Graphene:Ultra replacement cartridge for owners who want added chemical and heavy metal reduction.
How much water will one cartridge purify?
LifeSaver rates it for up to 20,000 litres, which is 5,300 US gallons, with an initial flow of about 4 litres per minute at 0.6 bar. At 18.5 litres per Jerrycan fill that is roughly 1,080 fills. LifeSaver notes the volume and flow depend on the composition and turbidity of the source water.
What does it remove, and how was it tested?
Per LifeSaver, the cartridge removes 99.99% of viruses, 99.9999% of bacteria, 99.9% of cysts and 99.99% of microplastics. LifeSaver says an independent test house tested it to an adaptation of NSF Protocol P231, using a stressed challenge phase that imitates sewage contaminated water.
How do I know when to swap in the spare?
FailSafe is an automatic indicator: the flow stops once the cartridge needs replacing, so you cannot keep drinking through a spent one. A falling flow rate is the early sign. Shipping insurance is included free on every order, and LifeSaver orders leave Wisconsin within 2 to 3 business days.
