CBI Offroad Toyota Sequoia Build Guide (2023 to 2026)

Take a 3rd Gen Toyota Sequoia (2023 to 2026) off pavement and the front end, the underside and the rear are the spots that take hits. CBI Offroad makes armor for each of them. This guide lays out a CBI build in the order most people tackle it, using only what each product page lists.

Check the years on each part. Five of the six list 2023 to 2026. The transition skid lists 2023 only.

Build order for a CBI Sequoia

1. Front bumper

The front bumper sets up the rest of the build, so start there. The CBI Covert Front Bumper follows the Sequoia's factory body lines. Its integrated winch tray is 1/4 in steel and fits a winch up to 12,000 lb. Recovery points are built in and line up with the frame, and there is a mount for a 20 in single-row light bar. The 2-piece design makes the install easier, and CBI says the factory sensors stay.

Plan the winch now

Choose your winch when you choose the bumper. The Covert tray fits up to a 12,000 lb winch, so check your winch rating against that before you order.

2. Bull bar, if you want it

The Covert Bull Bar is an optional grille guard. It bolts on to the Covert bumper and adds protection and strength to the front end. You can add it with the bumper or later. It does not include the bumper.

3. Skid plates

Next, cover the underside. The Front Overland Skid Plate is 3/16 in steel and protects the front underside from rocks and trail damage. An oil access panel keeps routine service simple, and CBI lists the install at about 45 minutes.

The Transition Skid Plate fills the gap between the Covert bumper and the front skid, so protection runs continuously from the bumper back. It is also 3/16 in steel and installs with no cutting or drilling.

Check your year and lift

The transition skid page lists the 2023 Sequoia with the Covert bumper. If you have a 2024 or newer truck, contact us before you order. The front skid works with up to a 1 in differential drop and is not compatible with sway bar drop brackets.

4. Side steps

The CBI Side Steps give you a full-length stepping surface for getting in and for reaching the roof. They are body-mounted steel steps with aluminum top plates, finished in satin black with gray top plates. They bolt on with the existing factory hardware, so there is no drilling. CBI does not call them rock sliders.

5. Rear bumper

The CBI Classic Rear Bumper is built for steep trails. CBI says it improves the rear exit angle, which makes steep descents easier and makes dropping the back end less risky. It wraps around the rear in solid 7GA steel, adds recovery points, and has an integrated hitch receiver cover. It keeps the factory blind spot monitors and proximity sensors and has cutouts for flush-fit reverse lights. It is made in the USA.

Finish and freight

The skids come in Bare Metal, Powder Coat Black or TRD Grey. The rear bumper comes in Bare Metal or Powder Coat Black. Bare Metal is unfinished steel, meant for owners who plan to paint or coat it themselves.

FAQ

Will the CBI Covert bumper keep my Sequoia's front sensors?

Yes. CBI says the Covert Front Bumper retains the factory sensors.

Do I need the Covert bumper for the bull bar and transition skid?

Yes. The bull bar bolts on to the Covert bumper, and the transition skid sits between the Covert bumper and the front skid. Neither includes the bumper.

Will the front skid work with a lift?

CBI says it works with up to a 1 in differential drop. It is not compatible with sway bar drop brackets.

Are the side steps rock sliders?

No. CBI describes them as body-mounted side steps for entry and roof access.

Bare Metal or Powder Coat Black?

Powder Coat Black arrives finished and ready to install. Bare Metal is unfinished steel, a good choice if you plan to paint or coat it yourself.
